How We Make Our Popular Sea Buckthorn Facial Soap

Hi Friends,

Online: Sea Buckthorn Facial Bar

Many of you ask me how we make our Sea Buckthorn facial soap, so I thought I would show you. Soap is not difficult, just time consuming with many steps, so I’ll try to keep each step brief, just enough for y’all to see how we do it.

Cheers, Kim

1.The day before, we make a batch of almond castile soap and pour it into a container that will be easy to remove the soap from.

2.Next, we chop the block up into TBSP size chunks.

3.The soap is then put in a crockpot, on high, with the lid. I also put in about 1/4c of distilled water to keep the soap from drying out.

4.In about an hour the soap will be fully melted.

5.And, in goes the organic, cold pressed Sea Buckthorn seed oil. We use 30mls per lb of soap. It is then mixed thoroughly into the melted soap.

6.It needs to be blended and whipped until the soap is smooth and uniform.

7.Now into its form. I use a 32oz tube with a bottom, but any form of any shape will work. We begin by coating the form in Castor oil to make removal easier and then scoop in the correct amount.

8.For the next 3 days, after the soap has initially set, the form will get flipped upside down for 24 hours and then right side up for 24 hours and then again upside down for another 24 hours. This allows the oils to set evenly in the form.

9.On the fourth day it is time for the soap to be cut out of its form to dry further. Every day, for the next 7 days it will get flipped. On the 8th day it should be set enough to cut.

10.The soap has the consistency of firm cheese and is sliced up into 120ml pieces. When I add the Sea Buckthorn oil, I try to whip out all the white, but sometimes I miss a spot.

11.The last step before packaging is curing. For the next 8 weeks, each bar must again be flipped over every day to get a perfect set. All the flipping is laborious, but necessary.

12.And finally, the wrapping stage. We use pastry paper to pinwheel wrap the bars and a paper belly wrap to secure the label.

Hope you found this interesting and now you know how we make our most popular facial soap. Kim
