I get many people asking for glass for items such as Castor Oil, versus plastic and I understand why, but I want to tell you all the real truth.
Every ingredient, other than essential oils and other volatile ingredients, are ALL stored in plastic at the original facility they are produced at, during shipping and then at the distributor's warehouse, where they can sit in storage for years. This is done for safety during handling, storage and shipping.
Not all plastics are the same and in Canada certified, organic ingredients (such as I buy) are stored in HDPE food grade containers, which have been fully tested for safety if that is a concern and are fully recyclable. Yes, I use glass in the shop, but not for items like shampoos, where doing so would be dangerous if dropped on tile and especially not the (very heavy) Castor oil. Glass would be a dangerous container for 250ml+ size bottles. Plastic does have a role to play in our safety.
My advice is to buy the best quality item you can afford in plastic and then transfer it to glass. Don't get tricked into paying more for glass, when in reality you are not getting what you think you are buying: an ingredient that has no plastic footprint. It’s just no true.kim
One of the primary causes of the loss of the eyebrows, especially the outer edge of the eyebrows is an Iodine Deficiency. There are other symptoms, but this symptom appears to be uniquely linked and therefore a good signal of this deficiency. You can go to your doctor and get tested, but unless you eat sea foods three times a week, save your money and buy some wild shellfish instead.
So, what are the other indicators of iodine deficiency?
Some of these symptoms can be mistaken for insulin resistance and a Vitamin A deficiency, but the eyebrows and the Gouter are uncommon and therefore good signals to act on.
What to do.
This is a diet issue, so changes need to be made regarding what you are eating. Natural iodine comes from the sea. Freshwater foods will not have iodine in them, so eating fish such as lake trout does not offer you any iodine.
Below are tips to getting iodine into your diet (best sources in order of appearance):
Iodine is one of the most important elements necessary in our diet for proper thyroid function and the body cannot function properly without it. Eating seafoods three times a week will satisfy this need, or taking seaweed daily in capsule form will provide what the diet is lacking. It has been my experience that the body responds very quickly to iodine and getting your eyebrows back could simply be a matter of six months to a year.

How can I tell, I’m getting Adrenal Fatigue?
Often, we wake up feeling tired and most of us can attribute it to a sleepless night or an exhausting previous day, knowing that by the afternoon our energy will rebound and we will have forgotten about how we felt. It was just a tough day before and we just need a good meal and a day off.
But for many people, they do not rebound and instead remain feeling tired, as well as irritable for no apparent reason. This tired cranky feeling has become a chronic emotional and physical state and over time a collection of additional general symptoms begin to develop. Along with the fatigue, people begin to experience body aches, digestive problems and serious sleeping problems that they can not resolve and so the condition worsens.
Common symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue include:
Your adrenal glands produce several of your hormones, such as adrenaline, DHEA and cortisol, all of which undertake the body’s response to stress. Chronic stress, both physical, emotional and psychological, overworks the adrenal glands and if they are not cared for, they will disfunction leading to inadequate production of one or more hormones. 1
The first phase of Adrenal Fatigue is the Alarm phase, which is a normal and natural response to external stressors. The Alarm stage is important as it stimulates the adrenal glands to produce small amounts of stress hormones, such as insulin, adrenaline, norepinephrine and cortisol, which are the body’s chemical messengers during stress. Note: When you are producing insulin to process cortisol your liver will be off and not making bile for the gut, or undertaking any other jobs and your thyroid will be disabled. This is normal, because insulin is King and stress is a Killer, so it gets your body’s full attention. Damage to the gut and hormone system occurs with long-term or repeated stress. These hormones produce alertness, allow you to focus and give you the ability to make quick decisions, all of which are necessary to tackle stress and find a solution, so it doesn't occur again.
After responding to the external stressor, the body should naturally calm completely down to a rest. On average, this takes 45 minutes once the stressor is removed. However, repetitive stress and coping strategies may disrupt this normal and natural cycle. For instance, taking caffeine to keep you alert, because your so exhausted and need to function, but it will hijack your normal signals for relaxation and sleep in the body and although you will feel fully awake, your performance will be subpar. The symptoms of the first stage of Adrenal Fatigue aren’t overly noticeable, however the ever-present feeling of being slightly tired is a red-flag.
The second phase, Resistance, is the body’s way of informing you naturally that you should slow down. During this phase, adrenal glands steadily and noticeably start slowing down. At this point your adrenal glands can’t produce enough stress hormones to meet the increasing demands and by the end of this phase, and if you do not eat adequate protein and fat to begin with, you will progress quickly into Stage Three.
With reduced production of stress hormones, you may experience the following symptoms:
Your body shifts into Adrenal Exhaustion immediately when there is a significant drop in cortisol hormone production. Unfortunately, your body is still stressed and a loss of alertness and focus now takes over permanently, along with physical, emotional and mental crashes that increase with frequency and severity as the adrenals disfunction and begin to go down.
You will experience periods of highs and lows during the day, with a fog of extreme tiredness dominating your body. If you rest at this stage, feeling refreshed takes longer and lasts only briefly. Everything, ranging from digestion to libido, slows down. Your mind also slows down considerable and thinking becomes burdensome.
The Burnout phase of Adrenal Fatigue comes with several coexisting body dysfunctions, because the adrenal glands support many other body processes. A significant drop in adrenal functionality leads to both physical problems and many, many psychological issues that impact both the nervous and reproductive systems.
Key symptoms of Burnout include:
The time it takes to recover from Adrenal Fatigue is different for everyone, depending upon the causes and people’s varying physical conditions. Reducing stress can be one of the greater challenges, when recovering from Adrenal Fatigue. Kim

I didn't even think of food as anything other than what was my favorite, what made me fat, what did I think was nutritious (reading package labels for my info…so wrong) and I ate it with no thought to any schedule. I thought many small meals was supposed to be better, but in fact we now know it speeds up damage to the pancreas and exacerbates insulin resistance. Whenever I felt like eating, I ate. I’d say I had a combative relationship with food, always managing it to keep weight off, never just eating for health. The only thing I did right was I did not eat at night and I didn’t drink alcohol or smoke. Otherwise, that was my relationship with the most important thing I can do for myself, which I didn’t realize at the time. Nor did I even think that I was missing this important relationship in taking care of myself, which becomes very important over the age of 50, because good selfcare is crucial to longevity. Now that I have this relationship with my diet, I can’t imagine how it would have been possible to properly care for myself without it.
Not having a relationship with my diet was the biggest mistake I have made in the maintenance of my body. By not managing my diet on a nutritional level and controlling what I should eat of each food group (meat, veggie, fat, carbohydrate) I realize now I had abandoned control of the one avenue to health and beauty I had, my diet. The moment I started correcting, controlling and choosing foods based on nutrition and not entertainment or taste I started to make inroads into the multiple health problems I had and four years later I am the healthiest I have ever been.

Bile is released into the small intestine by way of the bile duct, where it breaks down fats, neutralizes the contents from the stomach to protect the colon and assists in the absorption of your fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E & K), Omega fatty acids, phytonutrients (lutein, lycopene, turmeric, etc.) and mono-fatty acids.
But, bile does other important jobs other than just breaking down fats and proteins, so we can absorb them and they won’t damage our colon. Bile also acts as a carrier. Toxic substances, hormone metabolites and excess cholesterol from the body is put into bile when it’s made, so that these substances can be taken to the colon and eliminated during the eating process. In the colon, your probiotics then act upon this mixture and separate the toxins from the bile, sending them through the colon and out, while the separated-out bile is further broken down and reabsorbed back into the body.
How Do I Know I Need Bile?
Without adequate bile, after eating dairy, proteins and fats (this will not occur if you are a vegetarian because your diet is primarily sugar/water soluble vitamins/minerals and the need/benefits of bile will be minimal and that includes the elimination of toxins and cholesterol) you will experience a feeling of bloating, heaviness, gas, nausea, acid reflux, pain and tightness on the right side of the abdomen, where your gallbladder is. Toxins and excess cholesterol will remain in the liver longer causing congestion and impaired function, exacerbating the problem. Bile is also needed for proper weight loss, so weight gain is a symptom of a bile shortage, because a functioning gut/liver is required for the breakdown and utilization of fat. These symptoms can last longer than 24 hours and can appear to be chronic and permanent, depending upon meal frequency and severity of the bile short-fall.
If this situation persists and degrades further, the gallbladder will become congested and inflamed (with the possible loss of function), often resulting in headaches/migraines, severe neck, back and shoulder pain, excruciating pain and tenderness on the right side of the abdomen, as well as fatigue, which is a result of the loss of nutrients/energy from food that couldn’t get broken down properly. The loss of nutrients eventually produces nutritional deficiencies that create other problems, such as anxiety. There is also the damage on the colon which can result in IBS, Diverticulitis, rectal/colon cancer and other long-term conditions.
If you have had gallbladder surgery, bile and pancreatic enzyme production will be inadequate for those with a complete diet and it is wise to take both after a meal. If you are beginning Keto or wish to add more protein and fat into your diet you will need to take bile until your body can make the adjustment. With age you likely need more bile, especially if in the past you ate primarily low fat, cooked and/or processed foods. If you are a vegetarian who wants to add fish, eggs etc. into your diet to get the fat-soluble vitamins, you will need bile and perhaps for some time until you adjust. Everyone is a result of their past diet, so needs vary.
So, Who Needs Bile?
And Why, Again?

Eyelashes are made of the protein Keratin, but you need trace minerals to make the amino acids, which are utilized to make proteins. Trace minerals include iron, chromium, copper, zinc, iodine, manganese and selenium. These minerals are found in green leafy vegetables, nuts (5 Brazil nuts a day will give you all the zinc you need.) broccoli, eggs, avocado, berries and spirulina.
When you’re missing certain trace minerals it impacts the development of a specific type of prostaglandin, a lipid compound resembling hormone, which acts through G-protein-linked receptors and is necessary for the growth of eyelashes. If the mineral deficiency is great enough, prostaglandin will not be produced and the loss of eyelashes will result.

Herbal medicine is not about using the most exotic herb you can find, but about using the most native, heritage weed called for in the recipe and these will be the herbs readily at hand. These herbs are also inexpensive, making natural medicine affordable.
Recipe:
Base:
3 tablespoons dried chamomile flower
1.5 tablespoon coriander seeds
1.5 tablespoon dried lemon balm leaf
1 cup Castor oil
Additive:
40 drops lavender essential oil
Directions: Put the herbs in a glass baking dish and add enough Castor oil to cover the herbs. One or two inches deep. Bake at 170’ F for 4 hours. Allow too cool and then strain. Transfer to a container of your choice and add the essential oil. Rub 2 tablespoons over the stomach area or over your liver area under your right rib cage. Cover with a cotton towel and then a hot water bottle or heating pad. Relax for 30 to 40 minutes, or put on before bed and go to sleep. Store remaining oil in a tight-fitting jar and keep in a dark place. Do not refrigerate, or it will go rancid. Will keep 3-8 months under proper conditions.
]]>I have now been Nutritional Keto for four years. I have personally witnessed the reversal of life-threatening diseases through diet change. I lost 35 lbs and my energy was through the roof. I no longer suffered from depression or anxiety and developed an enormous abundance of patience and tolerance for others. But recently I have felt a little sluggish. I haven't changed my diet, but I noticed that I was putting on weight. I had continued to walk every day, get a good deal of sleep, continue to deal with stress to keep it at a minimum and made sure I took time off to just do nothing and give myself a break. I was doing everything I was supposed to do and I never cheated.
After a little research I realized that perhaps in the last four years my metabolism had slowed down and that was why my regular routine was not sufficient. I knew that I could go back to running and that would stimulate my metabolism and speed it up and I would begin to burn more fat and keep weight off, but I knew that running at my age causes a lot of stress on my body that isn't necessary, because I could attain all the benefits through walking, well all but one. I knew that to increase my metabolism I actually needed to get my body temperature way up until I was sweating like crazy and Dr. Annette Bozeman on YouTube suggested going to the sauna.
Could it be that easy? Could sitting in a sauna relaxing, sweating away all that detox, cleaning out those pores, bringing blood to the outer cell layer of your skin to feed it, could it also increase my metabolism? It turns out Dr. Bozman was right.
Last night, I went to the public pool and sat in the sauna until I was in full sweat for 20 min. 20 minutes of sweating is sufficient to stimulate your mitochondria, which then increases your metabolism, which then causes your body to immediately begin burning sugars or fats, depending upon your diet. After my sauna, I felt very relaxed, had nice energy through the evening, didn’t get cold, which can happen at night and slept extremely well. All signs of increased blood flow, which is a result of a high functioning metabolic system.
In the morning I woke energized. I got ready faster than usual. I noticed my skin looked really lovely, so much so I actually forgot to put on my concealer. I had amazing energy all day at work even enough to be writing this blog after doing my hour's walk in 45 minutes after the day's work. I noticed my pants fit much better today and that's just one day.
Fully convinced that a 20 minute sauna sweat significantly increased my metabolism, I have taken two of my walking days and will be going to the sauna instead.k
]]>Berberine as a replacement for the weight loss drug, Ozempic:
Berberine is now being used as a replacement for the expensive and hard-to-find Ozempic. “Ozempic stops the body from feeling hungry [or] stops the cravings,” says Neil Paulvin, a NY-based longevity and regenerative medicine doctor. 2 “It (also) slows down how the stomach empties, which is one of the main ways that Ozempic works. With Ozempic, people are losing five to 12, sometimes up to 16 pounds a month,” depending upon their age, diet and activity level. 2 Ozempic requires a prescription and costs on average “$1000/month.”2
Berberine is different from the drug Ozempic in a number of ways. Firstly, it is relatively cheap, doesn’t require a prescription and is NOT taken as a needle injection (which will be a relief to many people), so you don’t need to go to your doctor to use it and you don’t need to be Elon Musk to afford it. Berberine is administered as a tincture that you take in water or under your tongue and is available over the counter. Try to purchase it from a reputable Apothecary and in a liquid form, where it will be made strong, in-house and fresh, versus a commercially manufactured pill that will be relatively weak and have been warehouse for a period of time, lessening its effectiveness and absorption potential.
Berberine also does not replicate the actions of Ozempic, so there is no interference with the body’s natural rhythms, or Nervous System, which can cause complications down the road. Instead of altering the body’s communication system and food processing functions, according to Carl Giordano, a New Jersey Surgeon and Advocate for the plant remedy, Berberine improves “the way insulin works and the way your body can use carbohydrates. It makes people less insulin-resistant,” so sugar gets utilized and not stored into fat.1 This can also improve energy levels making exercise more enjoyable. Berberine can also help “the body bring sugar out of the system and into the cells, which in some cases additionally helps with weight loss.” 1 In summary, Berberine stimulates your body to correctly process carbohydrates through your system and then turn them into energy not fat. “Patients…lose two to four pounds a month at max” says Paulvin, but slow weight loss is healthier and often more permanent. 2
“I’m happy to talk about berberine as a weight reduction compound, says Giordano, but I think what’s really great about this is that that’s a springboard to get us to talk about the real health benefits of Berberine. Berberine is a real mechanism to work on chronic issues today that we see. We live in a state of chronic inflammation which leads to chronic illnesses as we get older,” says Giordano, who takes Berberine daily.” 2 According to both Giordano and Paulvin, Berberine offers even more potential health benefits over Ozempic.
Berberine:
What else should you know about berberine?
Berberine is safe for most adults. Some people have allergic reactions to certain supplements and depending on other medications you’re taking; you can have an adverse reaction to Berberine (ex. blood pressure med dosage as Berberine removes fat from arteries). People who are Diabetic or are on the petite side can possibly experience Hypoglycemia symptoms from taking Berberine because of its impact on sugar in the blood. 1
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of Hypoglycemia can include:
This problem can possibly by eliminated by lowering the dosage and taking it with food.
There is also a possibility that taking Berberine can cause bloating or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Giordano says. To avoid this as much as possible, he suggests taking Berberine with meals.1
“I think the health benefits of Berberine are so good that it’s one of those things that everybody should consider taking, not just for the Blood Sugar [which can impact weight loss], but again, for longevity,” says Giordano. 1

because both have vitamin B1 and B5, which helps to lower stress and anxiety.
B. EXERCISE:
Take long walks in nature to physically remove yourself from everyday stressors. This will immediately result in a reduced cortisol level. When walking in a forest specific stress reducing compounds are released into the air by pine trees, such as limonene and pinene, which promote restful sleep and contribute to lowering stress.
Ready to up your game? Robust exercise, such as running, lifting or swimming, helps the body metabolize and eliminate excess adrenaline in the blood, resulting in lower stress levels that promote sleep and repair.
Wade through the water. Get your feet wet up to the calf. Salt water is abundant in minerals such as magnesium, sodium, potassium and selenium, all of which are known for their cortisol lowering properties and you can absorb them through your skin. The combination of the salt water, negative ions, sunlight and the sound of water will produce a profound physical and mental relaxation. Do this as often as you can.
or participate in an art therapy or music class. Taking in a play or comedy performance are also therapeutic.
Music stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system and can promote balanced cortisol levels.
This light frequency has been found to increase melatonin, a sleep promoting hormone that counteracts the bad effects of stress.
Breathe in through your nose for five seconds, then breathe out for five seconds. This rhythmic pattern, when done for 6 minutes, can noticeably reduce blood pressure and lower stress.
C. LAST WORD:
All these strategies can be applied in combination and as a life-style choice. When increasing your activity level remember to give your body time to adjust. Exercise is a positive form of stress, but it is a stress none-the-less and if you are coping with elevated stress levels a comfortable walking pace is recommended to provide all the benefits of exercise with the least amount of stress.

Agaricus bisporus (White, Cremini, Portabella): Immune System, Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, Breast and Lung Cancers
All these mushrooms are the same mushroom, but the white is the youngest and the large portabella is the eldest, when harvested and although the common mushroom only offers a small number of vitamins and minerals, its health benefits are enormous. Many of these benefits are found in the enzymes and bacteria contained within.
Eating common mushrooms boosts your immune system. Like many other mushroom types, the common mushroom contains a significant number of helpful bacteria, especially for the microbiome found in the gut. These helpful bacteria improve digestion of vital nutrients that power the body's immune response.
A recent study found that a diet including mushrooms can reduce the likelihood of developing high blood pressure during pregnancy. High blood pressure occurs in 10% of pregnant women. Eating 100 grams of mushrooms per day, including the common mushroom, can significantly reduce a pregnant woman's risk of having high blood pressure.
The common mushroom also protects against breast and lung cancers. This effect is a result of the aromatase inhibitors in common mushrooms. Aromatase inhibitors block an enzyme called aromatase that promotes the creation of estrogen—a hormone that promotes the growth of some types of cancerous tumors.
Chaga: Immune System, Inflammation, Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, Cardiovascular Disease, Cholesterol, Cancerous Tumors
The Chaga mushroom is an ancient, revered remedy growing in the northern hemisphere from Canada to Siberia. It is distinguished by its habit of growing on the side of birch trees and its orange tissue. It is rich in a wide variety of nutrients, including B-complex and D vitamins, cesium, rubidium, amino acids, copper, zinc, iron, potassium, selenium, manganese, magnesium, calcium and an abundance of antioxidants.
Blood Sugar - Chaga might have a role in the fight against Diabetes A 2006 study found that the types of beta-D-glucans found in chaga help to lower blood sugar in rats after ingesting chaga for 8 weeks.
Cholesterol, Blood Pressure and Cardiovascular Disease - Polysaccharides present in chaga have been found to reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL), the so-called “bad” cholesterol. Research also suggests that the inflammation caused by oxidative stress is a contributing factor in high blood pressure increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke and poor cardiovascular health. Chaga’s abundant antioxidants have shown to lower blood pressure to safeguard cardiovascular health.
Cancer - Increasingly, researchers are taking seriously the possibility that chaga may be able to prevent cancer and slow its growth A 2010 study found that chaga could slow the growth of lung, breast and cervical cancer cells in a petri dish. The same study also found that chaga could slow the growth of the tumors in mice. Another study showed that a tea extract of chaga mushroom inhibited the growth and promoted the death of colon cancer cells. A 2009 study found that triterpenes, the compounds found in chaga and some other mushrooms, cause tumor cells to self-destruct. Additional studies carried out on animals have found similar results. Unlike other cancer treatments, chaga does not harm healthy cells.
Immune System - Cytokines are the immune system’s chemical messengers. They are proteins that play a vital role in stimulating white blood cells, which are the immune system’s first line of defense against a range of illnesses. Recent research on mice suggests that chaga helps to regulate the production of cytokines and supports the immune system by helping cells communicate with one another. The Beta-D-glucans further help to balance the immune system. This means that they can stimulate your immune system when you need a boost and downregulate it when it is overactive. Together these properties help fight infections, from minor colds to life-threatening illnesses.
Inflammation - When the body is fighting an illness inflammation supports the fight, but sometimes inflammation can become a chronic health problem. Conditions such as rhuematoid arthritis are linked to inflammation and recently depression has been linked to chronic inflammation. Cytokines in your body, such as tumor necrosis factor alpha, are responsible for inflammation. Betulinic acid, inotodial and ergosterol peroxide in chaga reduce inflammation by inhibiting the production of these cytokines supporting recovery of autoimmune conditions and other diseases.
Chanterelle: Bone Health, Antioxidants, Immune System, Cancer
Chanterelles are particularly rich in copper, a mineral that plays a central role in your body’s energy production, brain health, and iron metabolism. For example, copper which is essential for immunity, a deficiency in this important mineral can increase the body’s susceptibility to bacterial infections. They also contain vitamin D, which your body needs to regulate the absorption of calcium and mineralize bone tissue to maintain the health of your bones and immune system. Chanterelle mushrooms also provide several B vitamins like niacin and pantothenic acid, both of which support your body’s central nervous system.
Plus, chanterelles are a good source of antioxidants, like beta-carotene, flavonoids, polyphenols, and ascorbic acid, which are compounds that may reduce inflammation and protect you against chronic disease by neutralizing harmful free radicals. Though more research is needed, other test-tube studies also show that specific compounds extracted from chanterelle mushrooms could have cancer-fighting properties and may slow the growth of cancer cells.
Cordyceps: Stamina, Herpes, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Lung, Colon, Skin and Liver Cancers
Cordyceps are thought to increase the body’s production of the molecule adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is essential for delivering energy to the muscles, building stamina and aiding in recovery after life threatening illnesses, Herpes, Hepatitis, CFS, or injury. Several studies also found that Cordyceps' antioxidants help improve memory and sexual function as well as being an anti-depressant.
In test-tube studies, Cordyceps have been shown to inhibit the growth of many types of human cancer cells, including lung, colon, skin and liver cancers. Cordyceps may also reverse the side effects associated with many forms of cancer therapy. One of these side effects is Leukopenia. A 2009 study showed that Cordyceps completely reversed Leukopenia in mice.
Lion’s Mane: Nervous System, Brain, Cancer
Like Chaga, Lion’s Mane possesses many of the same constituents and is effective in controlling and preventing inflammation, high blood sugar, high cholesterol and cancer, but this mushroom’s remarkable ability lies with the nervous system and the brain. Studies have found that Lion’s Mane contains two special compounds that can stimulate the growth of brain cells hericenones and erinacines. Additionally, animal studies have found that Lion’s Mane may help protect against Alzheimer’s disease, a degenerative brain disease that causes progressive memory loss.
Maitake: Immune System, Prostate, Skin and Bladder Cancer
This mushroom species has anticancer, anti-metastatic (slows cancer spreading), antiviral, anti-candida and immune system enhancing effects, as well as helping to control both high blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Three grams of mushroom concentrate, or half a cup fresh per day of Maitake mushrooms is said to be able to sweep the system, find abnormal cells and cause them to self-destruct. Simultaneously, Maitake triggers the body to release immune cells that attack and kill malignant cells.
Oyster: Protein Source, Colon and Breast Cancers
Oyster mushrooms are rich in protein, up to 30 percent by dry weight, plentiful in B vitamins, significant levels of the cholesterol-lowering molecule Lovastatin and two molecular mechanisms that specifically inhibits growth of colon and breast cancer cells.
Oyster mushrooms up-regulate genes coding for proteins, which stop tumors from growing and support tumor regression. Additionally, the beta glucan and glycoprotein complexes alert the immune system's cancer weapon the cytotoxic T cells, which boosts the body's natural anti-cancer response.
Reishi: Immune System, Brain, Liver and All Cancers
Reishi is beginning to be understood as one of the most important mushrooms for health and medicine, just as Chaga has proven to be. Reishi mushrooms are loaded with ganoderic acid, which is known to help reduce cholesterol and lower high blood pressure. It has strong immune boosting powers and is revered as an antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, anti-cancer fighting fungus. A 2009 study demonstrated that Reishi contained unique polysaccharides that promote longevity by boosting immune system function and preventing abnormal blood vessel formations that could lead to life-threatening cancerous growths.
In 2010, a different study found that the triterpinoid ganoderic acid found in Reishi acted to inhibit the development and metastasis of all kinds of tumors. A 2011 study expanded these studies suggesting that this mushroom could potentially seek out and eradicate existing cancerous cells within the body and actively support the creation of nerve growth factor, a protein that is fundamental for healthy neurological function, which can help patients with neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Huntington’s. More recently, a 2013 study showed that Reishi can reverse chemical-driven liver damage in mice. Like Chaga, the more we study Reishi the more we learn how diverse this mushroom is in its ability to impact all major functions of the body, especially in terms of cancer.
Shiitake: Gastric, Pancreatic, Stomach, Lung and GIT Cancers, Anti-viral, Anti-bacterial
Not only an excellent source of Vitamin D, Shiitake mushrooms also contain a powerful natural anti-tumor compound called Lentinan, which treats gastric, pancreatic, stomach, lung and GIT cancers. A 2011 study showed that Shiitake reduces inflammation in the body by improving function of the gamma delta T-cells. Shiitake also lowers cholesterol, reduces platelet aggregation, is anti-viral and anti-bacterial.
Turkey Tail: Breast, Colon, Ovarian and Stomach Cancers
Turkey Tail mushrooms contain compounds called polysaccharopeptide (PSP) and polysaccharide-K (PSK). PSP and PSK inhibit the growth of breast, colon, ovarian and stomach cancer cells and may have the ability to stimulate the immune system during chemotherapy, especially when combined with other anticancer treatments. In Japan, researchers have isolated the PSK compound and it is now available as an approved adjuvant cancer treatment, according to the National Cancer institute.
Standard Daily Doses

Health Risks:
Mushrooms are food and are considered safe for the vast majority of people when they are consumed normally, like any other complex vegetable you would eat (1/4 cup cooked daily). See dosages. Many people will be taking mushrooms to lower their blood sugar and blood pressure and if you are taking medications for these conditions, you will experience dosage issues as your body alters from a sick state to a healthy state. This should always be taken into consideration and monitored.
Blood Thinners - Mushrooms may interact with blood thinners, such as warfarin or clopidogrel. Some studies suggest that mushroom may add to the effects of your blood thinner and will cause medication dosage issues.
Lower Blood Sugar/Diabetes Medicine - Researchers have discovered compounds in mushrooms that naturally lower blood sugar and will cause medication dosage issues.
Kidney Stones - Chaga is high in oxalates. Oxalates bind to calcium during digestion and are eliminated in the stool. Any oxalate not attached to calcium goes through the kidneys and leaves in the urine. If there is too much oxalate and not enough water in the urine, the oxalates may form into kidney stones.
If you take any medications always consult your doctor before taking any other form of medication, including Herbal and Chinese Medicine.

Many people ask me how I make my popular Sea Buckthorn Cream. Professional creams are made very similar to buttercream icing and if you are a good baker, you should try your hand at it.
STEP 1: Write Your Base Recipe
The first thing you want to do is make your base. This base can consist of the same ingredients for all your creams or you can change it up and make a different base for each cream you invent.
At the shop we use a different base for each cream, but all my bases consist of some kind of:
Here is a typical cream recipe (using grams at a 120g calculation):
*Hint: These two ranges match each other, so 70% H2O needs a min 5% thickener, if you don’t use any butters. Your butters thicken and will impact how much thickener you need. If you use 6% shea, 70% water, you’re better off trying only 4% thickener to start. Adjustments are common. Your Special Ingredients are added after you make your base, but are part of your total recipe calculation.
STEP 2: Make Your Base
Important: Do not allow your cream to cool to room temperature before adding your Special Ingredients. The cream base needs to be warm to touch. If it does cool too much, pour it back into the pot, melt it down on low and then add new preservative at the proper temperature. Be ready to add your Special Ingredients.
STEP 3: Add Your Special Ingredients
You now have a warm base you can add to, to make your cream unique. It is at this stage that I add my organic, cold-presses Sea Buckthorn Oil.
You can add it all at once or in stages, just be sure you mix thoroughly on low.
STEP 4: Jar Your Cream
Once mixed you now need to jar your cream to keep it nice. You can use any jar for this, but we do have packaging at the shop to buy for your projects.
Once jarred, let it cool to room temperature before putting on the lids. If the lids go on while it’s hot, your cream will sweat, possibly separate and will spoil. It can take up to 24 hours for a cream to set. You can put the lid on even if it isn’t set yet, so long as the cream is at room temperature.
STEP 5: How Do I Adjust My Cream?
Firstly, you can fix the cream you just made if it is too thick by:
This can be repeated if your cream is still to thick but repeated heating destroys nutrients in your cream.
If your cream is too liquid you will need to rewrite your recipe with more thickener and make it again. If you followed the recipe above, you shouldn’t need more than 1 or 2% more thickener. Most times this will be the perfect place to start if you need it just a bit thicker, which is about the difference between a face cream and a body lotion.
If you have a watery mess then the original recipe is not within the ranges above or you should rework the recipe to see if you have a calculation error. You also may have measured wrong and if so, you will need to toss it out and make the original recipe again. It might come out perfect this time!
LAST WORD:
Making a professional cream takes practice and an understanding of how ingredients behave, which takes time to master, but it’s not difficult. Explore all the ingredients available to you and experiment. Before you know it, you’ll be able to make anything you want using this recipe in different ways.

SIBO is enormously common. Many people do not realize they are coping with the condition and can suffer their entire lives with it before it is identified and treated.
People with SIBO experience painful gas and bloating whenever they eat, especially when they eat fat or fiber. The gas is accompanied by diarrhea or a soft bowel movement that has a notably bad odor. (Note: you could get constipation if you have IBS.)
SIBO is the result of a lack of stomach acid (hydrochloric Acid=Betaine) and low bile (which is made in the liver and stored in the gallbladder). Frequent use of antacids, a low potassium diet, a high carbohydrate diet and stress commonly create the condition. The proper supply of stomach acid and bile will kill incoming bacteria and keep it down to a minimum in the small intestine. The bile salts that are found in your bile further scrub the colon clean after digestion. About 90% of your bacteria should be in the large intestine and quite far down the system where it has important duties.
The feces odor associated with SIBO is fiber that has been fermented in the small intestine by the bacteria overgrowth. Normally you wouldn’t have much bacteria in the small intestine, so fibre can pass through without being acted upon and eventually exit with a bowel movement. Without the acid to create a minimal-bacteria environment this fibre begins to ferment, rot and smell and can lead to more complications.
Another result of SIBO can be pale feces from all the undigested fat that needed bile to be broken down. When you don’t break down fats you don’t absorb the A, D, E, K1, K2 fat soluble vitamins that are in the fat. Theses vitamins give you strong bones and teeth, beautiful skin, hair and nails and beautiful muscle definition, most of the traits we associate with youth and natural beauty. Black feces has a lot of undigested protein and possibly blood. If you have black feces you need to go see your doctor to rule out blood as the possible colouring agent. In both cases you do not get the nutrient from the food you did not digest and the process will have caused inflammation throughout the system to differing degrees.
Because SIBO is the result of liver, gallbladder and stomach health, neck and shoulder pain plus headaches are also common. When the gallbladder becomes inflamed and swells the nerve that runs behind it and up to the neck and skull can get pressed and squeezed causing symptoms that can lead to a migraine. Note: Most common headaches are caused by gallbladder related issues.
So, what can you do?
SIBO is not a life sentence, but does require food changes and some temporary restrictions.
Step 1: Begin Breaking Down Food Properly
Get yourself:
pills. Be prepared to take these digestive on a semi-permanent basis.
Take at a minimum 1 of each, about 5-10 minutes before you eat a meal that typically would give you indigestion. We each make different amounts of acid, bile and enzymes, so stress, some foods and what time of day it is will influence our need for more bile, acid and enzymes. Most people take between 2-4 of each at their main meal, depending upon their liver and gallbladder health. If you get discomfort with every meal, then take pills for all meals. Experimentation is often the best method for finding out how much you need. Start with 1 of each and add until you find out what works best for you. If you forget to take your pills before eating, you can take them within an hour afterward, just eat something small like half a carrot with the late pills.
Note: DO NOT buy or use Bile Salts (Tauroursodeoxycholic Acid) to clean the small colon of excess bacteria and fermented fibre. It comes from the gallbladder of a bear or is synthetic. Avoid both. Use regular bile, which contains bile salts in proper proportions and make the changes necessary to clean out the small intestine gently and ethically.
Step 2: Reduce Your Bacteria Intact (for now)
I thought I’d never say this, but stop taking your probiotic. Until you can get the bacteria under control in your small colon, it is best to not add to your problem by taking probiotics. Under this condition they are not a benefit and can’t help you in any way to deal with the situation. So, for now hold off on the probiotic for about 6 months while you make the changes necessary and give your body time to make the adjustments and corrections.
Step 3: Clean-out The Fermented Fibre That Is In The Small Colon
Take your bile regularly and stop eating grains and legumes. Theses are sugary fibres that are easily fermented in the gut. Your diet should utilize meat (optional) and vegetable fibre found in lettuce, broccoli, garlic, onion…etc. If you are open to the idea, Dr. Eric Berg suggests going on a Carnivore diet for 3 months to clean out the fermented fibre. Meat has a great deal of fibre, so your feces will get its fibre, but it isn’t sugary fibre, so bacteria will not be able to ferment it. Whatever you choose, removing further fibre intake will allow the colon to work on cleaning out what is there with the help of the bile pills and Step 4.
Step 4: Repair The Colon With Intermittent Fasting (IF)
The colon needs time to do its work and if it is continuously being filled before emptying out complications develop. Part of what the colon needs to do after each meal is clean itself. To give your system the time it needs, you need to not eat so often.
The standard IF pattern is 16/8, 16 hours of fasting with an 8 hour eating window. This looks like coffee/tea in the morning, lunch at noon and dinner by 7:30. Drinking tea, coffee, water, broth and other zero sugar/fat liquids is not eating, doesn’t involve the colon and will not break a fast. Avoid snacking during your eating window, or work to break the habit. Snacking keeps the colon filled and has other bad features associated with it.
Last Word
It takes time for the body to heal, but if you make the needed changes the body begins healing immediately and every day you will feel a little bit better, and a little more like your old self again. If you need support through the process, or advice I do take appointments. Call me at: 250-594-3332 to set-up an appointment. Sometimes just getting started and understanding what you need to do is all it takes to put you on the road to recover.
]]>Hint: The measurements, method and colours are all identical to a lipstick, even the firmness of the stick. The beeswax measure I suggest here is for a slim stick and it is just an average, because the amount of matte versus mica in your colour will ultimately decide how much beeswax you need. Colour that is more transparent will need a tiny bit more beeswax to harden into a stick than an opaque colour that has more clay in it and will harden easily. Each recipe needs to be made to be perfected.
STEP 1 Get Prepared
Make sure you have enough of everything you need. Have your recipe all ready because you will be working fast.
Be sure to premix your colours. You can buy your colour from us.
Makeup needs to be made using a scale and your measurements should be in grams. Choose a small pot that is easy to pour from and holds its heat long.
STEP 2 Measure and Melt
Measure and melt all your butters first. They require a little bit of heat, but keep your heat low and don't go above med-low. Add your oils after the butters have melted.
STEP 3 Mix In Your Colour
Add your colour. You can add it all at once. I always remove it from the heat and spend a substantial amount of time (5 min) to really make sure the colour is mixed well. If the colour has a lot of mica it is harder to mix and may require stirring when you pour your sticks. It's not difficult to do. It just takes more time.
STEP 4 Pour and Set
Pour your sticks.
Let them sit for about 15 min before you put them in a container that allows them to stand-up. Make sure you wipe-off any spills.
Put them in the fridge for 24 hours and then allow them to sit at room temperature for another 48 hours.
STEP 5 Basic Recipe In Percentages
Times the percentages by the amount you want to make, ea. Beeswax .26 (point 26) x 5g (total amount wanted) = 1.3g (how much to use). Do this for each ingredient and then add up the quantities for each ingredient to see if they equal the total amount you wanted. To perfect your recipe you will need to tweek the percentages to get the product you want.
Beeswax 26%
Coconut oil 9%
Shea Butter 15%
Jojoba oil 10%
Calendula 2%
Coco Butter 6%
Lanolin 5%
Palm oil 6%
Colour Mica 20%
Geogard Preservative 1%

Nasal Vestibulitis (NV) or Nasal Folliculitis, at one time was a rare type of bacterial infection at the opening of the nose. This has changed with the wearing of masks. NV may look like a pimple or sore just inside the nose. It often develops when hair follicles become infected, such as after a cold and a lot of aggressive nose-blowing or when you pluck nose hair. It is an infection in the vestibule or the entrance of the nose. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria causes most of the infections.
Although anyone can get this infection, certain risk factors make a person more likely to experience it. These risk factors include:
Weakened immune system: Some conditions, such as diabetes and certain medications may make the immune system weaker, increasing the risk of infection.
Nose picking: People who frequently pick their nose may scratch the skin, causing tiny injuries through which bacteria can enter. Nose picking can also introduce bacteria from other areas, such as the mouth or hands, into the nose.
Plucking nasal hair: Plucking the hair of the nose may irritate the skin and create tiny tears, increasing the risk of infection.
Frequent nose blowing: This can irritate the nose and cause it to swell and tear. Blowing the nose may also spread bacteria from one area of the nose to another.
Nose piercings: Nose piercings may provide an opening for infection to enter. Before the piercing heals, it is an open wound and bacteria may get in.
Cancer treatment: Chemotherapy weakens the immune system, making a person more vulnerable to certain infections. It may also dry out the nose, causing it to crack open or bleed, allowing infection to enter.2
Symptoms
People with NV may notice a pimple-like growth inside the nose. Sometimes, there are several such growths. Popping or picking these growths can cause the infection to worsen and spread.
Some other symptoms a person might notice include:
pain in or around the nose
crusting inside the nose
swelling
dryness in the nose
itching
bleeding
unexplained oozing from the skin just inside the nose
Some people with NV may have a recent history of nose injuries. Others may notice that their nose felt dry or cracked before the infection appeared. If the infection is severe or spreads to other areas of the body, a person may develop a fever. This is rare, however.1, 2
NV does not tend to be dangerous, but if a person does not seek treatment for it, the infection may spread. Also, although this is extremely rare, researchers have reason to believe that the infection can spread to the skull or the brain. The area of your face that covers the corners of your mouth to your nose bridge is a dangerous area, because many of the blood vessels in this area are directly linked to your brain, so immediate treatment is necessary to eliminate this outside possibility.1
Cure
Thankfully, the remedy is quick, easy and reasonably cheap: Rose Geranium Essential Oil. Using a cotton swab, put a drop on the end and apply the essential oil to the interior of the nose that is affected and the outside of the opening of the nose. The scent is not overwhelming and has a green cleansing smell. Apply the essential oil in the morning and before bed. Depending upon the advancement of the infection, it should take on average 3 days before the swelling goes down substantially and another day for it to go away. Rose Geranium essential oil is gentle and will soften and soothe the area. It doesn’t burn or hurt in any way and is easily tolerated by a child.
Unfortunately, once you have this condition it can return. Keep the nose clean and dry and when you feel a tingling in your nose, which is a sensation experienced by many just before a flair-up, apply your Rose Geranium Essential Oil to the area immediately. The sooner you catch it, the faster it passes. Overtime, reoccurrences will lessen, but if you get a flair-up you will know what to do.k

“(In 2016) …I had some skin removed from the top of my head that was confirmed as Squamish Cell Carcinoma. The donation skin was taken from my chest and the graft was successful. Unfortunately, (in September 2019) a new growth started on the graft (photo1, and by April 4, 2020 it had expanded to 5mm). This time (my doctor) did not do a biopsy, so we never confirmed that it was cancer.”
“My follow up date with Skin Care West was 15 months away (December 2020, so) …we started using Frankincense on the spot, applied morning and night. (A week later, 4/28/20, photo 2) …you can see it (the growth) coming to the surface.
(By 5/3/2020, photo 3 the growth) then form(ed) a scab. (In photo 4, 7/12/2020 after 11 weeks of treatment, the scab) then fell away when I washed my hair.”
“By the time I saw the specialist it had completely cleared up. I printed some photos to show the doctor. Her opinion was that there was nothing more to do, that it was all cleared up. We used nothing but frankincense. The spot has not returned and there is new hair growing. Fingers crossed!”

Generally speaking:
Crohn's disease is “a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It causes swelling of the tissues (inflammation) in your digestive tract, which can lead to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss and malnutrition.”1
IBS is a malfunction of the Peristaltic action of the large intestine (colon) resulting in “a group of symptoms that occur together, including repeated pain in your abdomen and changes in your bowel movements, which may be diarrhea, constipation, or both. With IBS, you have these symptoms without any visible signs of damage or disease in your digestive tract.”2 IBS is commonly thought of as a collection of allergies, intolerances and sensitivities to proteins such as lactose (milk) and gluten (grain) and can be rectified with diet changes.5
Colitis is swelling (inflammation) of the large intestine (colon).4
Ulcerative colitis is “an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation and ulcers (sores) in (the) digestive tract.”3
The primary culprit preventing absorption of vitamins and minerals is the massive amount of inflammation in the colon.13 Couple this condition with an autoimmune condition (overreaction of the immune system) and the result is excessive, chronic inflammation and thus minimal ability of the cellular wall to absorb nutrients.3
Vitamins
There are 7 primary nutrients that are affected. Keep in mind, we are all individuals and this list may be longer for some.
Of the 7 nutrients, 5 are vitamins, D, B12 and B9 (folate) and K1 and K2 (Binary K). Vitamin D comes from the sun and grass-fed meats. Vitamin B12 and B9 (folate) are made by our bacteria, but also found in meat, fish, eggs and dairy.9 This vitamin is grossly affected when you have inflammation of the colon because the condition alters the quantity and healthy balance of the biome. The biome decides your ability to produce and absorb B12 and B9.5
The binary vitamin K (K1, K2) comes from avocados, lettuce, collards, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cheese, meat, butter, egg yolks and fermented foods.5 It should be noted here that all the vegetables, except lettuce, are FODMAT foods and are very difficult to breakdown, generally, so cheese, meat, butter and egg yolks would be better.10
Vitamin D and K are fat soluble vitamins, which means the body stores these vitamins in the fat.5 All the fat-soluble vitamins are A, D, E and K.8 B12 and B9 are water soluble vitamins, which we cannot store and urinate out the excess.7 The water-soluble vitamins include Vitamin C, Vitamin B complex (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, biotin, folate and cobalamin).6
What do these 7 vitamins do for us?
The two most important functions of vitamin D, which is deficient in 70% of sufferers, is the ability to increases the absorbency of calcium by 20x and is required to regrow the lining of the small intestine, often leading to secondary GI tract complications in sufferers. Vitamin K, as K1 assists with clotting and bleeding, while K2 drives calcium deep into the bones and keeps it out of the arteries and joints. Combined the lack of D and K leads to weak and brittle bones.5
B12 helps keep your body's blood and nerve cells healthy and assists in making DNA, the genetic material in our cells. Vitamin B12 also helps prevent megaloblastic anemia, a blood condition that makes people tired and weak.11 B9 aids in the production of DNA and RNA and is especially important when cells and tissues are growing rapidly, such as in infancy, adolescence and pregnancy. Folic acid also works closely with vitamin B12 to help make red blood cells and help iron work properly in the body.12 A deficiency in these vitamins impacts our ability to grow and repair and maintain a strong immune system.
Minerals
The primary minerals that are affected are iron and potassium. 80% of sufferers have these deficiencies. Iron is found in meats and cyanobacteria (algae), such as spirulina. Men should avoid taking iron pills, because it can build up in the system and cause cirrhosis of the liver. There is little risk to women who are still menstruating, but those who are menopausal, it would be best to supplement with cyanobacteria or grass-fed meats.5 Iron absorption is both impacted by the inflammation of the colon, but also by the bleeding from hairline tears in the colon that are caused when tissues repeatedly experience swelling beyond their natural capacity. 5 Bleeding is identified by a black or intensely dark brown bowel movement.14
Potassium is found in broccoli, spinach, mushrooms, peas, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkin and leafy greens (lettuce, collards, cabbage, etc.).16 Keep spinach and kale down to ¼ cooked/day. They are both high in oxalate acid and should be taken with at least a TBSP of lemon to neutralize the acid. Oxalate acid is known to cause kidney stone and crystals and swelling in the joints (Hyperoxaluria).17
What do these 2 minerals do for us?
Iron is a mineral that the body needs for growth, development and repair. Your body uses iron to make hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body and it makes myoglobin, a protein that specifically provides oxygen to muscles.18
Potassium is considered an electrolyte because it carries a small electrical charge that activates various cell and nerve functions in the body. Potassium’s main role in the body is to help maintain normal levels of fluid inside our cells. Sodium, its counterpart, maintains normal fluid levels outside of cells. Potassium also controls nerve and muscle function. Your nerves need small amounts of potassium to function, along with sodium, to help your nerves send the electrical signals required for nervous system function. If you have too little potassium in your body, you might notice abnormal nerve function that affects your sense of touch and muscle control. You might notice numbness and tingling in your hands and feet, which soon become painful to use. This is called Peripheral Neuralgia. At this point your nerves can no longer communicate with your muscle cells and you might notice muscle twitches or cramps and might even develop paralysis until your potassium levels return to normal.5
Potassium also helps muscles to contract and supports normal blood pressure.15, 19 A deficiency in this area will result in fatigue, cramps, general bodily weakness, constipation, muscle paralysis and an irregular heartbeat.19
Another quality of Potassium that is often overlooked is its amazing anti-depressant side-effects.20 Because it relaxes the entire body, smoothly fires muscles, produces an even blood flow and regulates the Central Nervous System, when these functions are not operative the body and mind grow very anxious and no amount of fluoxetine (Prozac), paroxetine (Paxil), fluvoxamine (Luvox), citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Cipralex) or sertraline (Zoloft) will make a pittance of difference. They often exacerbate the problem because they deplete the body of B Complex vitamins and Potassium and negatively affect the liver and kidneys. You need between 4000mcg-4700mcg a day for full function and the most immediate way to top-up your levels is through vegetables, like lettuce and other green leafy veggies.20 You should be consuming between 7 and 10 cups of green veggies/daily.
How can you immediately fix the problem?
This easy question has a not-so-easy answer. You need to change your diet. FULL STOP. There is no magical solution or pill or anything else, except to stop eating the foods that are causing the inflammation in the first place. Inflammation is the cause and its removal is the solution and that can only be done through diet change.

What is the difference between IBS/IBD?
Although IBS and IBD are very similar because they involve chronic inflammation and result in initially the same experience, they do have distinct differences:
The scope of the causes for IBD are too in-depth to be handled here, but the same remedies for IBS will also contribute greatly to the recovery of IBD sufferers.1
How do you get IBS
What actually triggers the chronic inflammation in the first place likely is the result of time and a number of causes, but how it escalates is understood. When you are triggered, you produce gas that stretches and expands the colon beyond its normal compacity, which in turn irritates the lining and can even cause microtears.3 If the lining is given time to recover fully, the body can manage the incident. When the colon is exposed to repeated irritation and expansion, chronic inflammation sets-in. 2 The result is a loss of proper Peristalsis. It should be noted here that repeated use of laxatives also disrupt the natural rhythm of Peristalsis and may contribute to the development of IBS.5
Peristalsis is the rhythmic contracting of the muscular wall of the intestine to move the contents through the colon toward the rectum. As it contracts, it absorbs water and nutrient from the bolus moving through it. Waste material, stool, collects in the rectum until it is expelled through the anus as a bowel movement.2
With IBS, and again not necessarily but possibly IBD, the muscle contractions are abnormal. In some cases, the abnormal contractions can cause the bolus to quickly move through the colon, resulting in a watery stool or diarrhea, because there was not enough time for the colon to absorb the excess water. The opposite is also possible. The contractions can be to slow and the colon absorbs too much water from the bolus, resulting in constipation and a hard stool. IBS sufferers can experience both conditions.2
What are the triggers?
The primary trigger seems to be specific foods: grains, refined sugars (cane, coconut, guava), milk sugar or lactose, and certain fibres that are found in legumes and Omega 6 fatty acids like soy, corn and canola, with the oil being the greater culprit.1 It’s important to note that all these food triggers are high FODMAP foods.
Another culprit is stress.1 Stress affects the mind, but what it does to the central nervous system and the adrenals impacts the colon. When you are under stress your muscles, including your GI track, tighten up for action and your adrenals begin to produce cortisol. This is the fight/flight response and would be very useful if you were running for your life. Tight muscles prepare you to spring into action and the cortisol increases the sugar in your blood for a burst of energy. This is another reason why you produce cortisol when you exercise. The insulin that is produced by the pancreas sends sugar to the cells for energy, shuts down a number of other functions that would slow you down, like liver and digestion functions, sex hormone production, repair and fat burning, so prolonged stress has a huge impact on the body. This situation also applies to the consumption of carbohydrates and sugar, both of which need insulin to process.
With repeated stress/carbohydrate and sugar consumption the liver gets fatty, even before you see a single pound. A fatty liver is inefficient in producing bile and enzymes and filtering toxins on a daily basis. These digestive deficiencies, among other things, allows complex molecules to enter the colon, triggering an inflammatory response. The tightened muscle wall, associated with prolonged stress, further interferes with the natural tension and flex of the colon, increasing inflammation further.
I would also like to add alcohol to this list, because when you drink alcohol it puts your liver in toxic shock and it cannot undertake any function for the Gut until it has recovered. The liver requires roughly 1 1/2 hours to recover from a 4oz glass of wine. If you drink a glass of wine with dinner your liver can not make bile, enzymes or filter toxins. You will not have a properly functioning GI tract while eating, which will result in an inflammatory response in the colon.
What can you do?
It's hard to get stress out of your life and it can take time and new skills to accomplish. Learning to cope and alleviate your stress is a big part of the puzzle and it is necessary to undertake the challenge in order to recover from IBS.4
The consumption of alcohol is an immediate area for improvement. Knowing that drinking alcohol causes immediate problems to the digestive functions of the liver, suggests that the enjoyment of that glass of wine might be better enjoyed an hour after eating or an hour or so before. Avoiding alcohol altogether is best, but if you enjoy drinking don't eat at the same time.
For many, food choice will have the biggest impact on recovery.4 The FODMAP system helps to identify healthy foods (fermentable and Polyols) that may currently be causing inflammation and unhealthy foods that always cause inflammation. It should be noted here that the healthy foods that are high FODMAP foods can be eaten once the colon is repaired.1 They should be slowly reintroduced in small quantities.
What are high FODMAP foods?
FODMAP is a list of foods that cause inflammation in the colon and is an acronym for: 1
High-FODMAP foods to avoid1:
High FODMAP foods increase gas in the colon, which stretch and expand it beyond normal capacity, causing chronic inflammation. On a low-FODMAP diet, you want to consume plenty of low-FODMAP foods and avoid all high-FODMAP foods.
Low-FODMAP foods1:
Dr. Eric Berg suggests that if you do the low-FODMAPs diet for 3 months and see no improvement, it may help to cut out all vegetables and do a Carnivore Diet for roughly two months to allow your gut to completely settle down. Then resume the low-FODMAP diet.1 The Carnivore Diet is not a permanent diet, but one undertaken in extreme situations. Be sure to fully research how to do a Carnivore Diet before proceeding or seek the help of a professional. A low-FODMAP diet can be a permanent diet that promotes life-long, Gut health.

I’m going to begin by listing the most common Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics3:
Cipro (Ciprofloxacin)
Levoquin (Levofloxacin)
Floxin (Ofloxacin)
Lariam (Mefloquine- used for malaria)
Enoxacin
Fleroxacin
Gatifloxacin
Lomefloxacin

And any chemical that has “floxacin” or “Floquine” in its Scientific Name.
What are Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics?
Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics are synthetic antibiotics derived from quinine and usually contain a fluorine atom. Floxed is the term used to refer to the persistent, long-term, debilitating symptoms that appear after taking even just one pill.5 Symptoms can be felt immediately and amplified when combined with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Symptoms commonly appear after the drug has finished being taken and get progressively worse and far-reaching over the following 90 days.1, 5 Symptoms can persist for years and are often treated with an antibiotic, with these new prescriptions (sometimes multiple prescriptions) being another Fluoroquinolone Antibiotic, which does deeper, long-term damage.5
What do Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics do to your body?
Symptoms:
All combined Fluoroquinolone poisonings appear uncannily like radiation exposure, where immediate symptoms are mild, but over time become progressively more severe and possibly life threatening as cells attempt to reproduce and complete their functions.4
Individuals who are suffering from being “Floxed” are commonly diagnosed as having Anxiety Disorders with severe Somitization (emotionally caused physical symptoms) and are dismissed as hypochondriacs and mentally unstable.5
Common Symptoms4, 5:
Panic attacks that can last hours and days
Constant state of anxiety and terror
Depersonalization/Derealization
Insomnia
Numbness or loss of sensation
Heart rhythm abnormalities
Loss of language ability
Burning pain and soreness in muscles and joints
Sharp stabbing pains in the chest
Thinking impairment
Popping and clicking sound in the joints
Extremely stiff and painful joints
Vertigo
Suicidal thoughts
Constant ringing in the ears
Auditory and visual distortions
Depression
Sensation like your skin is on fire
Memory impairment
Physical tremors
Muscle twitching and jerking
Declining vision with the inability to focus, presence of floaters and after images
Altered mental states
Extreme long-lasting fatigue
Sense of impending doom
Tingling sensations throughout the body
Sensation like bugs are crawling on your skin
Akathisia- Agitation, constant turmoil, pacing back and forth with suicidal thoughts
Extreme weight loss
Chemical sensitivity especially to caffeine
Sensitivity to light and sound
Problems breathing
Facial recognition problems
Slow wound healing
And more less common symptoms
When did the FDA know?
As early as 2001, the FDA was aware of the dangers associated with Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics. 6 No steps were taken to inform the public until 2008, when they posted a warning on the label about possible “tendon ruptures”.4 Doctors for the most part remained uninformed until 2013.4 In 2011, they added “Neuropathy” to the label and in 2016 “muscle, joint and Central Nervous System” damage, but continued to promote the drug, especially for acute bacterial Sinusitis, Bronchitis and Urinary Tract Infections.4,5 In 2018, another label update was made to include damage to “Mental Health” and “Low Blood Sugar”. Yet, in 2023 doctors are continuing to prescribe this Neurotoxin that is shown to cause long-term physical and mental debilitation, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and extensive Mitochondrial damage.2, 4, 5, 6

This single study on erythritol and heart attacks has been in the news and found its way into social media. The primary claim of this study is that there is a correlation between erythritol in your blood to higher incidents of heart attacks and strokes. So, what they are implying is that when they look at the blood in these patients, they are seeing high levels of erythritol and therefore erythritol causes/contributes to Heart Attacks and Strokes. In law this would be called a Strawman Argument, an argument that on the outset looks strong, but when closely examined turns out to be flimsy, if not completely false, and I’d like to point out 3 reasons why that applies here:
So, what is a correlation? In simple terms a correlation is something that is always present when another thing is present, or happening. My favorite is the dry cleaner/economy correlation. Every time the economic market is just about to make a deep dip, dry cleaning businesses begin to yield greater returns. This is also true for hairdressers, who find jumps in revenue just before an economic downturn. Now, anyone knows that the dry cleaners and hairdressers are not causing the economic problems just to make more money. Actually, they are an early product of the situation. Keep this in mind.
Economic downturns do not happen overnight. People are first affected locally before the numbers begin to dip nationally. They lose their jobs, or need to get a part-time job because their position has been cut back, or job sharing has been implemented. So, they need to get ready for interviews and they do that by smartening up their suits and getting a fresh haircut. The US Dept of Labor tracks the income of dry cleaning businesses because they know there is a correlation.
The body makes endogenous erythritol when you metabolize sugar, have oxidative stress, belly fat, consume alcohol or are in a poor state of health, which is stressful on the whole body. It is a natural by-product of these conditions/situations. Because you make endogenous erythritol it needs to be identified and separated out in a test, so that a correct measure of the consumed erythritol in the blood can be captured. Otherwise, you could have a measure of 100% endogenous erythritol and 0% consumed and have no way of telling the difference. This omission alone should dismiss a test as null and void.
Secondly, people who are in poor health with weight problems, high stress or alcohol addiction show high endogenous erythritol levels and the great majority of people in this study were in poor health, which suggests that the participants naturally had high endogenous erythritol levels to start with, skewing the numbers right from the start.1
Other research has directly and clearly linked erythritol to many different health benefits, especially benefits that counter the bad effects of sugar and stress, which directly contribute to Heart Attacks and Stroke. I have listed 6 in the reference section below. It seems to me that erythritol is something that’s trying to help you and not hurt you3, or at the very least is a Biomarker. A Biomarker is a biological molecule found in blood, other body fluids, or tissues that is a sign of a normal or abnormal process, or of a condition or disease. A Biomarker has no causal relationship at all, and would appear as a strong correlation, as we see in this test. Could high erythritol levels signify risk of Heart Attack and Stroke in the same way dry cleaners signify an economic spill or crash? Its possible.
My final take from this is, yes, under certain conditions we should see elevated erythritol levels, which are either Biomarkers or bring aid to health conditions that can lead to Heart Attacks and Strokes, but erythritol does no cause either and this test does not show that it does. In fact, it supports the argument that erythritol is helpful and that is why it is present.

100% of the people who have come to me with Rosacea (including myself) over the past 12 years have/had a number of factors in common:
Let me add one piece of information you will find useful...regarding the skin, unless you have come in contact with a toxic substance (contact dermatitis), or are using commercial products on your skin (when you stop the reaction should go away immediately and not come back) then 9 times out of ten the condition you are dealing with is coming from your gut, because our skin is just the outside part of our gut. Your gut and skin are one organ. Half of it is on the inside and the other half is outside. You are basically a donut. The crispy crust is your skin (the hole is your gut) and the cake that makes up the donut are your muscles, bones, organs and ligaments that form your shape. So, whatever you see on the outside skin is also going on on the inside tissue.
So, what is Rosacea?
I successfully treat Rosacea as a Leaky Gut symptom. It can be accompanied with puffy eyes and eczema on the face, hands and limbs. It is caused by eating grain/legume/seed based diets, processed/fast/fake foods, which all have the toxin Lectin in them, a high daily carbohydrate intake, as well as other foods that are seeds and have the toxin Lectin (like soy, peanuts, cashews and potatoes) and not eating enough non-starchy vegetables (5-7 cups a day) to flush the body of these toxins to keep the blood clean and the organs functioning properly**. Yes! Salads are the most powerful detoxers on the planet and they give you all the nutrients your immune system needs to protect the integrity of your body. They are the Original Super Food!
So, what can you do to get immediate help?
**Note: If you decide to increase your veggie intake be sure to take a general enzyme for a couple of months until your pancreas adjusts to provide you with more enzymes. This can take 3 to 6 months on average.

Leaky Gut is not a medically recognized diagnosis, but refers to increased permeability (IP) of the intestinal wall, which occurs when tight junctions of the one-cell-thick epithelial cell wall becomes loosened or leaky rather than closed tight. It is believed that Leaky Gut contributes to a cascade of imbalances leading to immune, liver and lymphatic conditions, as well as numerous diseases and conditions. The incidence of chronic diseases, especially auto-immune diseases is on the rise and “many auto-immune conditions have Leaky Gut as a consistent and early feature of the disease process. In fact, there is increasing evidence that Leaky Gut is both the cause and a symptom of many diseases.” (Arreitta et al. 2006).
The healthy gut
The intestinal lining is supported by complex mechanisms, including probiotic bacteria, intestinal secretions (mucus), bile acids, the mucosal epithelium (epithelial cell wall) and lymphocytes (white blood cells). The integrity of the epithelial cells that line the intestines are regulated (open and closed) by the protein Zonulin that is released by the intestinal epithelial cell in response to stimuli (a vitamin). A healthy gut allows the nutrients from food to pass through the intestinal wall, but prevents antigens and toxins from passing though and entering the body.
If a toxin does pass through, a second layer of protection is provided by the liver, which is responsible for breaking down all substances passing through the intestinal wall. The liver neutralizes chemical substrates for excretion via the bile and kidneys. Bile acids also help to inhibit the growth of bacteria, especially anaerobic bacteria.
The unhealthy gut
When the intestinal barrier is repeatedly compromised, reactive oxygen species, carcinogens, macromolecules and other toxins pass through the intestinal wall and accumulate in the blood causing stress on the immune system and liver immediately. If the liver is unable to neutralize these toxins, they are returned to the blood, then the lymph and eventually deposited in the connective tissue (ligaments, tendons, bones and blood). The accumulation of toxin deposits damage the body and the recycling efforts of the liver putting an enormous burden on the organ, which can result in liver stagnation and obstruction in the lymphatic tissue of the gut, resulting in a chronic low-grade fever, often referred to as damp heat or toxic heat. Another result of an unhealthy gut is weight gain, low absorption of nutrients, autoimmune conditions, diarrhea or constipation, craps, gas, wet farts, brain fog, anxiety, insomnia…the symptoms that accompany Leaky Gut are extensive, can vary and are overlooked because they are misattributed or accepted as a consequence of digestion or aging. I encourage you to become informed and proactive.
The first step is taking a good Probiotic [click here] and taking our Leaky Gut Soothant [click here] to calm down the gut and begin the repair process. This remedy is a mastic that coats the gut, has anti-inflammatory herbs for the mucous membrane and is high in nutrients. We also have a Leaky Gut tea [click here] that is specifically an anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety remedy for the gut. You ultimately need to go grain-free or better yet, Keto. We can help you make that transition. Contact us for details.

While your system has certain mechanisms in place to help with the balancing of pH in the body, your dietary and lifestyle choices are the ultimate determinant in whether you have a proper pH level. There are many different factors that can cause acidity in the body, diet (the most controllable), chronic stress, drugs and alcohol, exposure to chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, pollutants and radiation, excess animal protein from processed foods and artificial and natural sweeteners like Saccharine and honey, just to name a few.
There are different pH levels in the body that protect and stimulate our organs and evacuation systems. The pH scale runs from 1 to 14. One is the most acidic, 7 is neutral and 14 is the most alkaline. Saliva is between 6.2-7.6 (6.5 is best), a little acidic to protect the mouth from bacterial infections, and the stomach is between 1.5-2.5, creating an acidic environment that breaks down foods and stimulates the liver to produce bile for the gallbladder, so it can tackle fats and proteins. The blood and tissues are between 7.2-7.4, neutral because they are an open system that is used to transport and hold many constituents of the body. Urine is between 4.8-7.8 (5-6 best) and is most acidic first thing in the morning because your body works while you sleep to balance your pH and get the extra acid/alkaline out in the morning through the urine, so you wouldn’t want to measure your urine pH then.
The best time and way to measure your pH is between meals and by testing the urine. You want to do this 3 days in a row to get an average and about once a month to keep track. For accuracy get a pH strip that is designed for urine [click here]. This kind of strip will give you very accurate measures and is extremely easy to use.
If your system is too alkaline, you need to eat more protein and fats.
If your system is too acidic, you need to eat more vegetables and eliminate carbs. A helpful trick is drinking the juice of ½ a lemon in a glass of warm water first thing in the morning or you could try our Rise and Shine drink mix [click here]. This is my go-to. It also supports your adrenals and is very refreshing.
Having the correct pH is crucial to maintaining your health and is a good indicator of your overall health. It’s worth the effort to track it and make the changes necessary for proper pH.
